Sea-Gull D304 faithfully re-creates the classic 1960s Chinese Air Force pilot chronograph, born from China’s first homegrown aviation timepiece program built for military aviators.
Origin
The D304 Project
In the 1960s, China had no domestically made pilot chronographs of its own. Trapped under technical blockades and lacking suitable flight timing watches for air force pilots, the D304 program was launched to develop our very own aviation chronograph.
Calibre
from ST3 TO ST19
The program’s first aviation chronograph took core inspiration from the Venus 175 calibre. With no precision machine tools available under technical blockades, craftsmen hand-fabricated the very first prototype movement piece by piece, bringing China’s original ST3 calibre to life. Modern Sea-Gull D304 preserves its classic mechanical structure, evolving it into the reliable, iconic ST19 movement with genuine vintage timing charm.
Fitted with a precision column wheel and horizontal clutch, the ST19 movement ensures smooth chronograph start, pause and reset with crisp button feedback for a refined mechanical feel. Replacing traditional swing clutches, its flat gear direct meshing structure eliminates hand jitter, delivers stable timing performance and presents sophisticated mechanical aesthetics.
